Beschreibung

A two-dimensional shallow resistivity survey of the groundwater potential of Ahmadu Bello University, Kongo Campus, Zaria Kaduna State, Nigeria using electrical imaging technique was carried out. Six image lines were measured at different strategic locations of the study area based on the fractured map of the area and Borehole log data information obtained from the area. Results from the interpretation of the data collected suggest 2-4 layers in the area studied. The resistivity value for the first layer (Topsoil) varies from 10 to 400 ohmm with thickness ranging from 1-14m. The second layer (Weathered Basement) has resistivity values between 120 and 500 ohm-m and thickness ranging from 5-11m. The third layer (Fractured basement) has resistivity values ranging from 500-1000 ohm-m and thickness between 3 and 6m. The fourth layer is the Fresh Basement (Bedrock) has resistivity values greater than 1000 ohm-m and infinite thickness. The southwest (SW) of the study area does represent a promising Aquifer with reasonable thickness of Weathered Basement and Fractured Zone. Also, the area seems to be a zone of high hydraulic conductivity because of its low resistivity values.
